The Best Vegan & Cruelty-Free Colorful Hair Dyes
The most popular question I get asked is, “Sunny, what do you use to dye your hair?” especially on Instagram… even after posting a pic of a burrito, haha. The short answer: Manic Panic’s Hot Hot Pink but lately I’ve been experimenting with Punky Colour’s Flamingo Pink and Overtone’s Extreme Pink Deep Treatment (definite refresh necessity). While that’s what I personally use, I wanna let you know there are several other options for cruelty-free colorful hair dyes to choose from, and they’re all delicious! My faves are below!
The Best Vegan & Cruelty-free Colorful Hair Dyes:
- Arctic Fox
- Good Dye Young
- Jerome Russell Punky Colour (bleach kits available)
- Lime Crime Unicorn Hair
- Manic Panic (bleach kits available)
- Special Effects
- Splat (bleach kits available)
What you’ll need in addition to a bleach kit and hair dye:
- An old raggedy shirt
- Latex gloves
- Tint Brush/Comb
- Plastic bowl
- Plastic hair cap
*Heads up* I highly recommend bleaching your hair before using these dyes for a brighter, more intense result. Simply follow the instructions on your bleach kit/hair dye and enjoy the colorful transformation.
Another question I’m frequently asked: “Sunny, how does your hair always look so vibrant?” The not-so-sexy-but-keepin’-it-hella-real answer is that I never wash my hair. Ever. I’m a disgusting beast, haha. Actually, I often go ~1-2 weeks without washing my hair, and I use dry shampoo in between washes. When I finally do get around to washing my hair, I always condition it with Overtone’s Extreme Pink Deep Treatment. Overtone has every shade of every color, and their products offer a lovely boost of colorful conditioning TLC that my hairsies desperately need. I don’t know what I’d do without this stuff.
